2 Timothy 2:21-26
“Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. SO flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who calls on the Lord from a pure heart. Have NOTHING to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know they breed quarrels. And the Lord’s servant must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.”

I am going to camp on this scripture for at least a couple of days if not more. So many things to think about and ponder on!
The phrase that first came to my attention was, “ready for every good work.” As I thought about and prayed that I want to be ready for every good work I had to read on to see how that happens. I am to FLEE youthful passions… according to dictionary.com, flee is defined as: to run away, as from danger or pursuers; run away quickly; The act of fleeing; the act of running away, to escape or expected evil; hasty departure.
This doesn’t mean flirt with youthful passions and try to resist. It doesn’t mean to slowly back away. It doesn’t mean to stop, look at it, pray about it, think about it. It means GET OUT OF THERE FAST!
So, one way to be ready for every good work is to FLEE youthful passions. Tomorrow I’m going to think through and talk about what youthful passions are. But for today, my prayer is for God to help me to flee from sin and to hate it and not even entertain the thoughts of sin. Sin is dangerous. As John Owen said, “Be killing sin or it will be killing you.” FLEE!
